New
Business Zones for British Airways
British Airways has
been voted the “Best European Airline” serving the Middle East at the
inaugural 2002 Business Traveller Middle East Awards. The presentation
ceremony was held at the Burj Al Arab recently where Steve Allen, British
Airways Area Manager for Southern Gulf, Central Asia and the Levant region
received the award on behalf of his company.
British
Airways has capped its achievement with the announcement of a new
commercial structure for its Middle East operations. The changes, which
came into effect from Mid-May, witnessed the merger of two of its existing
business regions into one. The new regions will include Middle East, North
Africa, South and Central Asia. Two new business zones have also been
demarcated: the first region being the Northern Gulf and the second one
including Southern Gulf, Levant and Central Asia.
Regional
Director Alan Burnett in the airline’s headquarters in London will head
the business unit for the new area. Area manager Harvey Lines who will
continue to be based in Bahrain and look after operations in Bahrain,
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar will head the Northern Gulf
region.

UAE takes Sheikh Khalifa Award for excellence in Service Sector
David Wild, General Manager, DHL UAE was recently
presented with the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award, which covers services
in Abu Dhabi, for the services sector by His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Sultan
bin Kahlifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Court of HH Crown Prince of Abu
Dhabi Executive Council & The Honorary President of Abu Dhabi Chamber
of Commerce and Industry.
The
latest honour comes hard on the heels of DHL UAE's Dubai Quality Gold
Award win and within just three months of the company being named 'Middle
East Country Of The Year' in the international air express carrier's own
corporate accolades.
"In taking the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award we have clearly
demonstrated how our total commitment to quality has positively impacted
our performance in the capital," states David Wild. "The award
is, yet again, a tribute to the DHL UAE staff and customers whose
increasing demands for service quality leads us to continually
innovate."
The award comes after nine months of investment by DHL UAE in its Abu
Dhabi infrastructure. "Recent investment in Abu Dhabi has focused on
fleet acquisitions, an imminent move into the retail sector with our first pick-up and drop-off
unit in a shopping centre, and the opening of a state-of-the-art air
express centre in Umm Al Nar. More investment in the capital will follow
including a planned new airside facility at Abu Dhabi International
Airport," states Wild.

SKYCARGO wins
at Industry Oscars

Emirates
SkyCargo has been named ‘Best Cargo Airline’ to the Middle East for
the 14th year running and Best Cargo Airline to the Indian
Subcontinent for the fifth year running by Air Cargo News.
The
awards, regarded as the Oscars of the air cargo industry, were presented
at a glittering gala night at London's Grosvenor House Hotel attended by
around one thousand industry decision-makers.
Phil
Rawlings, Emirates Cargo Manager UK and Ireland, said: "We take this
opportunity to thank everyone for their invaluable support which made it
possible for Emirates SkyCargo to win these awards. They are always a
great thrill for us and always a great motivator to serve our customers
even better."
The
awards were the results of a readership poll with freight forwarders the
main participants. Votes for the various categories were received from
more than 40 countries.
Emirates
SkyCargo is a three-times winner of the overall cargo Airline of the Year
award, achieving its hat-trick last year.

DHL UAE takes DQA GOLD
DHL UAE, the Emirates’
leading air express supplier, has scooped gold in the Dubai Quality Award
2001 honours officially recognising the company as providing excellence in
services.

“This
is a tribute to our staff and our customers whose increasing demands for
service quality lead us to continually innovate,” said David Wild,
General Manager, DHL UAE, who received the award at the DQA ceremony from
His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince
of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister.
This
is the second DQA recognition DHL UAE has been awarded in the past seven
years. In 1994 it took the DQA award for the services sector.
“Our
commitment to excellence has never wavered and we are consistently
engineering service improvements, through staged investment, training and
product creation,” said Wild.
“Since
DHL began operations in the Emirates in 1976, we have always recognised
the needs of our customers and the associated quality issues. We
acknowledge the responsibility we have to customers and employees by
ensuring long-term business success through planned, profitable growth and
reinvestment of earnings. Reinvestment over past years has significantly
improved the quality of DHL products and services available in the UAE.
“The
distribution of shipments is faster, smoother and more efficient. As
demand for speed increases, innovative technological advances have given

counts. The state-of-the-art equipment and procedures that we have put in
place ensure our customers enjoy the highest level of service

DHL
UAE, now in its 26th year of operation, was the first air express company
to operate in the Emirates. From a small office in Sharjah it has grown
and now has five sort centres and five express centres throughout the UAE.
The company, which was also the first organisation in the Middle East to
be certified to ISO 14001 environmental management standards, now has over
300 employees from 15 nationalities.

DNATA
Cargo achieves new ISO accreditation
Dnata
Cargo recently achieved certification to the new, more stringent ISO9001
2000 following a three day audit of its quality management system. Bureau
Veritas Quality International (BVQI) Chief Executive Bruno Ferreyra
presented the certificate to Ismail Ali Al Banna, Director Dnata Airport
Services.
Al
Banna congratulated the management and staff of Dnata Cargo and said that
their consistent achievement of new levels of quality set new standards
for the other divisions within the company.
In
addition to meeting the more stringent requirements of the new standard,
Dnata Cargo has implemented quality management features such as a computer
based performance and service quality measuring system and automated
document control. More significantly, the ISO9001 2000 quality management
procedures are integrated into Dnata Cargo's Total Quality Management
system.
