New mooring barge sets sail

The Dubai Shipbuilding & Engineering Company has built a 1,500 DWT mooring barge. The Dubai Millennium vessel has 80 rooms that can serve as offshore accommodation for about 250 people. Mohammed Obaid Mubarak and his brother Juma run the company. The Millennium would serve the offshore oil and gas industry. The company plans to build even bigger ships and work on a new vessel has just started. The company has so far built several vessels, including the Al Shindagha, which sails regional waters as a landing vessel.

Emirates Trading Agency this week signed a deal with Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan for building two 75,400 DWT Panamax bulk carriers at cost of $20million each. The deal is routed through Aqua Bella Shipping Limited and Safeer Maritime Limited of Cyprus. In addition to 10 vessels already in operation, ETA will continue to charter further 10 to 12 ships from the international market to support its cargo movement.
