Emirates Skycargo brings benefits to Japanese shippers

Emirates’ non-stop flights between Dubai and Osaka, starting from October 1, will provide the first direct air link between the Gulf and the world’s second largest economy.
Japanese shippers, already aware of the Emirates SkyCargo-a three-times-winner of Air Cargo News UK’s ‘Cargo Airline of the Year’ title, will be able to take advantage of services such as SkyChain, the airline’s advanced logistics management system, and its philosophy of personal service tailored to customers’ needs.

The flights will operate between Dubai and Kansai, Osaka’s international airport, with a Boeing 777-200 and provide between 12 and 15 tonnes of cargo capacity in each direction. Peter Sedgley, Emirates’ General Manager Cargo Commercial Operations, said: “We look forward to establishing good working relationships that will benefit all parties.”

“Japan is a promising market for us. Though it’s a new destination, Emirates SkyCargo already has brand recognition among the cargo community there,” Sedgley added.

Shipments out of Japan, where Emirates is represented by Air System Inc, are mainly manufactured goods while those going into the country comprise mainly perishables and sea produce, especially tuna. Currently, they are transported on Japanese carriers such as Nippon Cargo Airlines and transferred on to Emirates flights in either Hong Kong or Singapore.

Osaka will be the last of five new destinations joining Emirates’ network this year, following new services to Casablanca, Khartoum, Perth and Mauritius. Together, services to these new points will boost the airline’s cargo operations with around 250 extra tonnes of capacity in total each week.
