Iran rate hike worries freight forwarders

TEHRAN: Dubai freight forwarders are worried that a recent increase in Iran freight rates may force CIS shoppers to abandon Dubai in favour of transit routes via Mediterranean countries. Direct calls to Iran by large shipping companies - rather than via Dubai - have resulted in a drop in slot charges on transit cargo, some forwarders claim. Others complain that Iranian authorities continue to conduct severe spot inspections on transit cargo without clear differentiation between genuine traders and those importing illegally.
