ACR
will soon be moving into its new Import Unit building, which is nearing completion according to Natalie Rice, General Manager, Airline Cargo Resources (Pty) Ltd. “Our company has been growing at a tremendous rate, and we are currently working on completing the building and structuring of our new Import Unit at Johannesburg International Airport, which we had announced last year. We are looking towards occupying it by 1st November 2002.”

Covering an area of 1 500sq.m the new Import Unit will function as a Receiving Centre for import cargo on Turkish Airlines, Air Zimbabwe, Ethiopian Airlines, Air Austral, Air Namibia and Qantas Freight.

“The reason we have built it is due to continuous growth and

demand, space has become limited in the current unit - the new unit will allow for a more efficient and time effective service. The current unit will be maintained as a Road Feeder hub as well as a courier warehouse,” adds Natalie.

Airline Cargo Resources (Pty) Ltd or ACR as the company is more commonly known, was established in 1994 to specifically represent airlines as their General Sales Agents. It has its head office situated in Pomona, close to Johannesburg International Airport, and branches in Cape Town, Durban and Harare. ACR presently holds the GSA contracts for Air Zimbabwe, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Air Austral, Air Madagascar and Turkish Airlines.

In another development, ACR has been awarded the GSA contract for both Air Namibia and Comav, South Africa. “Air Namibia has daily flights to Windhoek out of Johannesburg and Cape Town. They also service various other destinations such as Luderitz and Walvis Bay. A very popular service is also the Air Namibia combi, which flies out of Cape Town and services Frankfurt. London - Frankfurt is serviced daily and London twice a week. This route is very popular for perishable cargo out of Cape Town,” states Natalie.
Comav has two daily flights out of Johannesburg to Eros Airport in Namibia. This is a very busy airline carrying courier cargo. Due to the fact that these flights depart at 03H00 and 04H00 respectively, ACR has now become a 24-hour operation.

Kenya Airways Acquires African Cargo Handling Limited
Move further enhances the position of KAHL

Kenya Airfreight Handling Limited (KAHL) is the premiere air cargo and ground handler at the leading airport gateways in Kenya. Its mother company, Kenya Airways, has acquired the entire share capital of African Cargo Handling Limited (ACHL).

ACHL was established three years ago and has state-of-the-art ground handling facilities, cold storage and cargo warehouses. The company is based at the ultra modern Nairobi Cargo Centre complex at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport cargo terminal. Although they will remain separate businesses, the activities of ACHL will be combined with those of KAHL so as to maximise on the internal synergies, avoid duplication and gain economies of scale.

KAHL already has a formidable reputation as the premier airfreight handling company at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and in the region. This co-operation will greatly enhance the position of KAHL, as the premier cargo handler in Kenya and will contribute towards developing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as the foremost air transportation hub on the African continent.

KAHL customers and employees acknowledge it as commercially successful and competitive. A wholly owned subsidiary company of Kenya Airways, KAHL offers aircraft and cargo handling both at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Nairobi and Moi International Airport Mombasa.

KAHL Website Enhanced

The KAHL website has been updated and improved to give it a better look and greater functionality. Among the features added are a section on 'breaking news', a 'Last Updated On' feature to let one know how recent information is, a guide on the process of clearing import cargo and an instant feedback form that allows a person to type in and immediately send comments, questions and any other feedback.
