DAS
Air Cargo, the African Cargo Airline of the Year, has commenced
a weekly DC10 Freighter Service from Shenzhen in China to Entebbe
via Bangkok and Dubai.
The first flight was launched on November 8, which carried a variety
of commodities including clothing, satellite equipment and electronics
for destinations in East and West Africa. Capacity is shared between
Bangkok and Shenzhen.
The flight is scheduled to link with Services from Dubai to Lagos,
offering Importers a 48-hour transit, which cuts at least three
days off the transit time of African cargo shipped via Europe.
At present loads into China are light but it is hoped this new trade
link will enable African Shippers of perishables and raw materials
to access the markets in the Far East.
DAS Air Cargo has appointed Linkglobal Logistics as General Sales
Agent (GSA) in the People Republic of China.
DAS Air Cargo USA is currently flying four DC-10 freighters and
two AN-12 freighters to over 50 destinations.

Entebbe
International Airport has introduced an Apron Safety Committee (ASC)
recently. The committee is geared towards creating a special forum
for people involved with ground handling safety at the airport's
airside. Igne Igunduura, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson,
said the move was in accordance with the International Civil Aviation
Organisation and the International Air Transport Association Aircraft
Handling Manual.
"We are registering a rise in both transit cargo, incoming
and outgoing passengers year after year, making us a fully recognized
international airport," mentioned Igunduura. Staff from Entebbe
Handling Services, DAS Handling Services, Fresh Handling Limited,
Uganda In-flight Services, Entebbe Joint Aviation Facility and CAA
are members of the Committee.
Entebbe International Airport’s recently introduced Investment Development
Program Study is
|
being funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, THE LPA GROUP.
The agency was selected by the Civil Aviation Authority in Uganda.
The purpose of the study is two-fold: to review existing facilities
at the Airport, and to review projects that the Civil Aviation Authority
of Uganda has targeted to continue the improvement process and maintain
the growth of the airport through enhanced structures and improved
services.
The study will confirm, prioritize, schedule, and recommend appropriate
projects for development.
