New Cargo Center proposed at Entebbe International Airport
Situated at the center of Africa without any access to seaports, Uganda relies heavily on the services of a modern international airport. In tune with this, the Entebbe International Airport is in the process of making a thorough modernization programme including the setting up of a new cargo center. "We are registering a rise in both transit cargo, incoming and outgoing passengers year after year, making us a fully recognized international airport. Ensuring that both passengers and their belongings are safe has become our main priority," said Igne Igunduura, spokesperson of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The preliminary design consisted of the planning and design involving cargo apron and taxi ways, dry cargo building (for perishables as well as dry goods), truck off-loading area, vehicle parking area and roads, freight forwarder buildings and cold storage facilities.

Kenya Airways offers direct cargo service flights

With effect from September 3, 2003, Kenya Airways and Kencargo have introduced their new direct flights from Nairobi Cape Town. The flights of Kenya Airways offer the first direct cargo service in the market from Hong Kong and Bangkok to Nairobi and beyond. This new service offers direct cargo capacity into Nairobi and connections to some 25 destinations in Africa via Kencargo’s Nairobi hub.
This direct service will offer unique opportunities to various sectors (especially the flower industry) of Kenyan and other African economies in the ever-growing trade and service delivery between Africa, Greater China, ASEAN countries.

Since the last four years, air traffic has significantly been on the rise in Libya with the return of the world’s leading airlines reintroducing their services, in addition to the establishment of numerous local airlines. Another world-renowned airline to be added to the long list is Qatar Airways, which will begin its operations on November 9.
To mark the start of Qatar Airways link to Tripoli was a presentational dinner at the new 5 Star Corinthia Hotel - the international chain's first venture in Libya. The dinner was attended by a large gathering from the aviation sector as well as travel and cargo agencies. The workshop was expected be an informative and fruitful display, illustrating Qatar Airways’ commitment and devotion to customer care.
The dinner venue was just a stone throw away from the Qatar Airways town office which is awaiting the use of its very modern



and beautifully furnished ticketing section, another sure sign of their loyalty in offering their customers with comfort and refinement.
"Qatar Airways has been one of the fastest growing airlines in the world since 1994 and the fastest growing in the Middle East, showing quality and excellence in areas such as duty free, airport services, airport lounges and holiday arrangement, plus, have a distinguished name for themselves for their on-board cuisine," stated Bahagt Helweh, QR Manager, North Africa.

Ethiopian Airlines to construct new cargo terminal

Ethiopian Airlines has signed a contract agreement with MIDROC Construction Ethiopia PLC for the construction of a new Cargo Terminal at Bole International Airport. Located 1.5 km west from the existing terminal, the new modern terminal will have a capacity to handle 104,000 tonnes of cargo per annum with a warehouse area of 14,000 square meter and a 19,200 square meter parking area.
The contract agreement was signed at Ethiopian Airlines’ Head Office by Ato Bisrat Nigatu, Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines and Engineer Shimeles Eshete, Deputy General Manager of MIDROC

Construction. The terminal will accommodate special rooms for cattle, medicines, mails etc. and offices of customs, ET staff and employees. The land side 450m road will connect the cargo terminal to the ring road for easy access of cargo delivery.
MIDROC won the bid for the construction of the terminal at a total project cost of Birr 133.1 million, which is expected to be completed in two years time. The construction of the new cargo terminal coupled with the modern passenger terminal facilities will affirm the position of Addis Ababa as a major air transport hub facilitating as ‘Africa’s link to the world.’
